Blueberries a big hit in Japan!

Shipments of highbush blueberries are at an all time high, and the NABC is continuing its marketing efforts. Check out our new advertising campaign designed to promote blueberries to the active lifestyle of today’s Japanese youth. There are more than 5 million active baseball players in Japan. Japanese studies have documented the benefits of blueberries to eyesight.

NABC exhibits at Japanese Bakery Trade Show.


circle2(February 2001) NABC presented IQF blueberries to the Japanese baking industry at the recently concluded MOBAC bakery Show in Osaka February 22-26. A Master Baker from the USA manned the booth along with Japanese speaking blueberry experts. We presented real blueberry muffins with a substantial amount of real IQF blueberry. We fond an audience willing to try high bush blueberries in their products and eager to receive technical assistance from our master baker!

Blueberry Baker Tours Japan

circle3Our Master Blueberry Baker spent a week in Japan after the MOBAC show and met on e on one with large scale baking companies in the corridor between Osaka and Tokyo. He was well received and several of the larger bakeries have expressed interest in developing US style blueberry muffins with the NABC’s assistance.

Asian Demand for Blueberries Continues to Grow

circle4The US Highbush blueberry industry recorded its fifth consecutive year of record shipments to Japan in the year 2000 with a total of 3,159 short tons of both fresh and frozen blueberries shipped to the Japanese market. This represents a dramatic increase over 1999 shipments. Of particular note: the fresh blueberry market continues to grow.
